First Visit

During you first visit at North Shore Family Dentistry, our team’s primary goal will be to fully understand your reasons for visiting, any specific concerns you’re struggling with, and the personal goals you have in mind for your smile’s future.

A comprehensive evaluation is our first recommendation, during which Dr. Schwartz or Dr. Wulfsohn will thoroughly review every aspect of oral health, including each tooth surface, the gum tissue, the resting bite, the TMJ, any restorative work in place like crowns or fillings, and more. A periodontal screening and oral cancer screening will also be performed to ensure that there are no concerning abnormalities that need attention. Additionally, a full set of digital X-rays will be captured in order to reveal any areas of interest that are fully hidden beneath the smile’s surface. If relevant, Dr. Schwartz may recommend a sleep evaluation.

Once we have all of the information we need, it will be time to sit down and discuss any treatment recommendations. Our team wants to ensure that the plan you decide on is the right fit for your current budget, your level of time commitment, and your personal preferences.

Dental Technology

The world of dentistry is always evolving, and staying right at the forefront of these new developments and additions is important to our team. Why? Because we can improve the speed of treatment, maximize accuracy, elevate patient comfort, and provide many other valuable benefits here in Skokie. We use the following state-of-the-art tools on a regular basis:

  • Digital X-rays capture high-resolution images for diagnostic purposes. Unlike traditional film, they can be viewed in seconds and only expose patients to a minimal amount of radiation.
  • Intraoral cameras give patients an up-close-and-personal look at their own oral structures.
  • Our digital impression system gets rid of frustrating impression materials and simplifies this process down to a few comfortable, no-contact scans of the mouth.

Dental Checkups & Cleanings

We strongly encourage our patients to schedule a professional checkup and cleaning at least twice every calendar year, or one per six months. There are many dental problems that can develop in subtle, gradual ways, going unnoticed by untrained eyes for far too long. By visiting regularly, our experienced dentists will have the opportunity to assess your oral health and provide invaluable support on a regular basis. We can also eliminate decay-causing accumulations of plaque and tartar from the mouth through an in-depth cleaning, leaving the patient’s smile feeling polished and healthy.

Children’s Dentistry

Being able to bring the whole family to one dental office can save patients a significant amount of travel-related time and cost, not to mention general peace of mind. Our dentists enjoy helping younger patients get started on the right foot towards a strong, healthy smile that lasts for life. Checkups, cleanings, dental sealants, tooth-colored fillings, and other child-friendly services will make a big difference in their continuing oral health throughout the years.

Dental Sealants

One of the most common causes of cavities is when food particles and infectious bacteria become lodged in the crevices of teeth. This is especially common with premolars and molars, which have wide chewing surfaces. Thankfully, one or more placed dental sealants can do an excellent job of sealing these teeth and reducing their vulnerability.

The sealant is made of a thin, plastic-based substance that is painted directly onto the enamel and can function properly for multiple years at a time with proper maintenance. While our team regularly recommends this preventive service for children, adults with sensitivities to tooth decay may benefit as well.
