Implant-Retained Dentures – Skokie, IL

Strong, Stable Dentures With the Help of Implants

At North Shore Family Dentistry, Dr. Schwartz believes that everyone deserves to have a smile they feel good about. Sadly, many people don’t think that’s possible after tooth loss, but implant-retained dentures are one solution that changes their mind. By using dental implants in Skokie to stabilize a denture, you get a smile that looks and feels more natural and enjoy benefits that a traditional appliance simply can’t provide. If you’d like to improve your dentures, contact us today to schedule a consultation!

How Do Implant-Retained Dentures Work?

Implant-retained dentures essentially look the same as traditional dentures in Skokie, but function somewhat differently. With adaptors that fit into dental implants, implant dentures have a much more secure foundation and doen’t rely on denture adhesive or suction to stay in place. The implants take the place of the roots of your missing teeth and, in most cases, just 2-8 are needed per arch.

Am I a Candidate For Implant-Retained Dentures?

Implants work for many people, but Dr. Schwartz will start with a thorough consultation to evaluate the following factors before making a recommendation:

  • Your general health and dental history
  • Your oral hygiene habits
  • Whether you use tobacco or not (smoking decreases the success rate of implants)
  • To assess whether you have enough jawbone density to support implants, we’ll also take images of your jaws.

The Implant-Retained Dentures Procedure

For the implant surgery itself, we partner with outstanding specialists in the area to make sure you get the best quality care possible. After you’ve had your procedure to place the implants in your jaw, we’ll create a temporary denture that you can use for the next 2-6 months while your implants osseointegrate, or fuse, with the surrounding jawbone. Then you’ll return here for a final visit so we can deliver your new permanent implant denture.
